Kockums Computer Systems AB, based in Malmö, Sweden, is firmly established as the world's leading supplier of marine CAD/CAM/CIM software and associated supporting services to the shipbuilding industry. Outside Malmö, KCS has a major subsidiary office in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and smaller local representations world wide.

KCS was formed in 1977 out of the Kockums shipyard in Malmö. Since then KCS has grown organically and through acquisitions to reach today’s position where KCS is supplying computer based information systems for the design, production, equipping, operation and repair of ships and other marine vessels to more than 290 customers in 39 countries. The total number of employees is about 130.

KCS has a declared long term commitment to providing ship designers, shipbuilders and supporting institutions with cost effective and practical Information and Communication Technology tools. Stocznia Gdynia (GDY)

Organisation description

Stoczynia Gdynia S.A is the most modern of Polish shipyards and belongs to one of the biggest in Europe having delivered and delivering ships to over twenty countries in the world, among them Scandinavian countries, France, Holland, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, former Soviet Union and even countries as far away as China, India, Indonesia, Malaise Brazil and the United States of America.

The high international rank of the shipyard is not doubt due to such factors as: the technical facilities of the company spread out on an area of 100 hectors locates by the Gdynia Port channel, use of modern technologies, and the well qualified eight thousand staff specialising both in designing and production of ships. All over 538 ships, of over 7 million DWT, built in Stocznia Gdynia S.A, have been designed (general cargo ships, tankers, OBO and RO-RO type vessels, large passenger ferries, floating docks, gas carriers, car carriers and large bulk carriers) by the shipyard in-house Design Office.

In the European market of container ship building Stocznia Gdynia S.A was classified as number 2 with reference to tonnage, gross tonnage and compensated gross tonnage and number three in the category of the number of ships built in 1998. In 1997, the Shipyard was granted an ISO 9001 certificate – the European quality assurance standard, a recognised certificate for good partnership reliability in commercial relations covering designing, construction, delivery of ships, floating objects and steel structures.

Young & Cunningham Limited (Y&C)

Organisation description

Young and Cunningham manufacture, stock and distribute valves to all industries.

The policy of the company is one which has remained unaltered since its foundation in 1924 – that is to take a personal interest in the fluid handling problems of our customers – whether technical or operational – and assist in the selection and supply of the correct valves. Young and Cunningham interests span a wide range of industries including bulk handling, brewing, chemicals, food processing, pulp and paper, offshore, shipbuilding and whisky distillation amongst many others.

Young & Cunningham manufactures a range of rotary hydraulic actuators for both quarter turn and multi turn valves, Teledep tank level measuring equipment and valve control systems for offshore industrial and marine applications. Systems can be supplied to operate actuated valves pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically according to the customer’s specification.

The U.K. branch network covers the entire British Isles from sites located in Glasgow, Chichester, Liverpool and Newcastle.
